Dr.  Jacek Gajewski

International Projects Coordinator at National Centre for Nuclear Research in Poland
 

Dr. Gajewski works as an International Projects Coordinator at National Centre for Nuclear Research in Poland. Since 2016, he has been the principal investigator and team leader of the CyberLAB project, funded by the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which led to the discovery of several “zero-day” vulnerabilities in Programmable Logic Controllers. Currently specializes in organizing international cooperation and education systems for the protection of critical infrastructures.

From 1971-1994 he worked as a particle physicist and since 1987 he managed the Warsaw University Physics Faculty IT Centre, which was then the cradle of the Polish Internet. He initiated the creation of the first in Poland: - electronic journal, IP LAN, international internet connection, web server, Usenet group server. In 2001, he was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit for creating the Polish Internet and for the project "Internet for schools" (IdS), which enabled cheap access to the Internet.

In 1994-2011 he worked as the Secretary-General of the Association of Central and Eastern Europe Networks (CEENet) and as an independent consultant for EC, NATO, UNDP and OSI. In the years 1995-2010, he co-chaired the organizing committees of 20+ workshops and 10+ IT projects. In particular, he led several CERT creation projects in the South Caucasus, Central Asia and Afghanistan, including the training of the first Georgian CERT in July 2008. In addition, he served as a member of the ENISA President's Advisory Board.
