Mike Coppin

Mike Coppin is an independent IT Consultant and former Global Lead for Oracle’s Public Financial Management (PFM) solutions within their Industry Solutions Group (ISG).

He serves on the Board of the International Consortium on Governmental Financial Management (ICGFM), a Washington based organization that is dedicated to improving governmental financial management.

He is also a member of the World Bank Financial Management Information Systems (FMIS) Community of Practice (CoP) which provides a valuable insight into the numerous FMIS projects that enjoy World Bank funding  and  oversight. This insight has enabled Mike to contribute to the adoption of PFM Best Practices by various Public Sector organizations.

Mike has more than 30 year’s worth of experience in the IT industry, and has occupied various board level management positions during the past 25 years. He also has more than 20 year’s worth of experience in dealing with the Public Sector.

He was born in South Africa and grew up in Namibia. He has lived in the United Kingdom for the past 11 years, during which time he has travelled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the United States. His travels have provided him with a unique opportunity to meet with, and gain an insight into, Public Sector institutions throughout the world. He has delivered presentations on topics such as eGovernment, Public Financial Management (PFM) and Tax & Revenue Management (TRM) in numerous countries throughout the world.

Mike was educated in Namibia, and studied at The University of the Witwatersrand Business School in Johannesburg (South Africa). His studies have covered Business Management, Solutions Development, Consulting Methodologies and Project Management. He is also a former Commissioned Military Officer.

Other than English, Mike also speaks Afrikaans fluently and understands Dutch and German. He is a former Private Pilot and his hobbies include sport, travel, wildlife and photography.
