WASHINGTON CONFERENCE
December 6-8, 2010 (Washington, DC, USA)
Practical Uses of New Standards to Enhance Transparency

Learn how emerging international standards are being adopted to bring transparency in public financial management.

The demand for greater transparency in public finance is a worldwide trend.   The adoption of international accounting and reporting standards and the use of revolutionary technical standards in providing information on the internet are examples.  Valuable information on how countries are implementing these new standards as well as the newest techniques to meet the demand for transparency will be some of the benefits of attending this conference.   Representatives from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, and North America will share their practical experiences in adopting and implementing new standards in the PFM world.

Key themes of this conference include:

  • Implementing International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS)
  • Using XBRL and metadata to make PFM information available on the web
  • Empowering citizens to follow public expenditure
  • Applying international standards in a local setting

The International Consortium sponsors a learning forum and luncheon the first Wednesday of each month from January through June, and from September through December, at The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.  Sessions begin at 11:45 and details can be found on the Upcoming Events page. Summaries of the presentations and question-and-answer periods which follow are published on the ICGFM blog

The first forum was held on February 6, 1985 in the dining room of the Comptroller General of the United States. The purpose of these monthly luncheon presentations is to permit those persons interested in improving public sector financial management and the quality of the financial information produced by governments to meet, make presentations, communicate, share ideas, learn what's going on across the world and network in general. Those who attend are from the IFI's, U.S. government agencies, consulting firms, universities, individual international consultants and representatives of our international member organizations who may be visiting, working in Washington, D.C. or have come by special invitation to make a presentation.
