Martin Chrisney is Director of the International Development Assistance Services (IDAS) Institute based in Washington, DC, where he coordinates the delivery of strategic and technical support to KPMG’s member firms working in the development sector.  His background includes extensive experience in the development field at the World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank, as well as support to bilateral donors and public sector institutions.  Martin has degrees in political science from Johns Hopkins Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (MA in International Relations) and in economics from the London School of Economics (MSc).  He also has contributed to thought leadership on topics in small business development, business climate reform, public sector banking, and infrastructure finance with various publications. 

Professional and industry experience

At the IDAS Institute, Mr. Chrisney provides thought leadership on innovative financing, shared value/impact investing, business strategy, and other global development topics resulting in high-value knowledge products, improved client engagements, and outreach for KPMG’s work in developing countries.   His work focuses on enhancing project delivery in engagements with governments, bilateral donors, non-profit organizations, and key development organizations.

He has designed and implemented donor challenge funds in Latin America and the Caribbean and served on the Executive Committee of Compete Caribbean, a DFID-sponsored program to support private sector development in the region.  He has had roles in strategy formulation at multilateral development banks, various advisory engagements with public sector institutions, and operational experience in the use of innovative financing instruments.  He also has worked as a country economist in a multilateral organization and conducted country credit and risk assessments for banking clients.
